When is my kid going to Kindergarten?
I always not sure when my boy will start Kindy. I have confusion because the school system here starts in September. Today I found my answer. I was looking at the LAUSD and found this information.
“Presently, a child may enroll in kindergarten if he or she will turn five on or before December 2 of the year of registration. “
This fall my son is 3, so he will be considered as a pre-schooler.
Next fall (2010), my son will be 4 and he will be in Pre-K.
In fall 2011, he should be 5 and starting Kindergarten.
So only two more years away. Two years is going to be fast and I should start checking out our local district public school (LAUSD). It will be the same elementary school that my husband went to 30 something years ago. But after so many years, the school changes and now they have many more out of city kids.
My husband is not so keen on sending him there. He told me to consider sending him to private school, unless if we moved to another city with better school district within the next two years.

Hope u all will be moving to a bigger home and better district then
I think my girl will be starting kindy at 4.5 yo coz the rule for our state is:
“Children may enter Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year in NSW government schools if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year.”
So the school year over there starts in Jan? Our school year starts in Sep, that’s why so confusing.

Yup, it took me a long time to finally figure out!! Wish they would just go by calendar year. Will be so much easier. Lil’ C’s birthday is the end of 2004, so technically she is supposed to go to K in Sep 2010. But I am sending her for early entrance, so she will be going this coming Sep instead.
May I know how can a child qualify for early entrance? Ya, I know what you mean to go by the calendar year like in MY, then I won’t be so confused. I think if a child’s birthday is around dec 4-31st, she/he must wait for next year. I just don’t understand why they don’t just let the birth dates for entrance until dec 31st.

Hmm… I wonder how much does Montessori cost? I heard it’s a good school for pre-school through high school (i think…)
