2009 Maui, Hawaii Day 1 Part 2

2/1/2009

I woke up early at 5:30am (LA time would have been 7:30am). Brandon woke up a bit later at 6am. We were ready to go out at 7:30am. I already planned the itinerary for today. We were heading to the Swapmeet at Wailuku and then to have breakfast at Zippy’s and then to Iao Valley.

Out we went from the hotel to the once a week swapmeet. We arrived around 8:15am. The admission was 50 cents for each adult. It was not as big as the one we went to in Honolulu, but you will get to see what they sell to the local people. A lot of beautiful flowers and tropical fruits including the famous Maui Pineapple. I was able to find a stall selling the local homemade jam and bought $20 worth of jam to bring back to LA.

Some of the jam varieties.

We left the swapmeet and headed to have our brunch at the Zippy Restaurant, the first in Maui. This is a chain restaurant and we love their chili so much during our last trip to Honolulu in April 2005. They were offering the grand opening special - Saimin for a special price. And I ordered that for myself. Brandon liked it so much and I was sharing my bowl of noodle with him. It was good. Before we left, I also bought some pastries from their bakery to-go section.

Our next stop was at Iao Valley. It is not too far from the city but this place has the secluded feeling like you are just out in the jungle.

Iao Valley lily ponds and bridge.

Brandon asked for the stroller but we insisted that he walk. He actually fell asleep during our short drive from the restaurant to here. I assumed he was still tired but we manged to take a good walk around this park. We saw a few waterfalls and did a small hike to see the stream too.

Little waterfall.

Kudos to Brandon for able to ‘almost’ complete the hike by himself. We held hands and only carried him for a little bit when the path was a little rough. We were lucky to be there at the right time as we were leaving, there were two groups of Japanese tourist entering the park.

The Iao Needle.

Feed me Mommy!

My child has been crankly and difficult to deal with for this past week.  You can read all about it in my previous post.  And since the beginning of this week, he starting to have this new phase of ‘Mommy, feed me!”  I would give him breakfast and snacks, and he wanted my help to feed him.  For example, I give him a bowl of grapes, and he wants me to guide his hand to pick up the grapes and guide it to his mouth.  He wants me to feed him lunch and dinner too.  I really hope this stage will pass soon.  I don’t mind feeding him as he eats much faster, but at the same time I am worried that he may not willing to self-feed when he goes to school later.  Oh well … again … I hope this stage will go soon.

Songs for children

Picture_1If you have younger children at home, you don’t want to miss out this one day special at Amazon MP3 download. This 150 Fun Songs For Kids album normally sells for $9.49. However, with the promotion, you can get the whole album with 150 Kids Fun Songs for only 99 cents on this Sunday (Easter Sunday), April 12th 2009.

I have a three children song CDs with a total of 35 songs which I paid over $20 for them. I play them every day and sing with my toddler son. He likes them a lot and he learned some of the songs from here that were not taught in his school. And now with just 99 cents you pay, you will get 150 children songs, a great deal I say. This album includes the famous songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Baa-Baa Black Sheep, Hot Cross Buns, Rock-A-Bye Baby and many more. You can also sample the songs from the website to listen to the quality. And with the MP3 download, you can store them in your CD and play it during a road trip or when you are in the car with your young children. Or if you prefer, you can just store the songs on your laptop and play it whenever you need to keep your child entertain for a little bit.
