Green thumbs, I have none

Green thumbs, I have none

This is what happened to my yellow pear tomato plant because I don’t have any green thumbs. It is dead now because I over water it. The weather was very hot that week, and I watered the plant every day. I didn’t know that by watering too much on this plant, it will rot the root. Now I know. But it was a little too late. I found out my mistake when I returned to the grower at the farmers market to buy another plant. Hope this second plant will do better than the first. So far, by the look of it, the plant seems to be growing way much better than the first.

Crumbs Crumbs Crumbs

Crumbs here. Crumbs there. Crumbs everywhere. If you have toddler, you might agree with me. We constantly find crumbs everywhere. Cookies crumbs, bread crumbs, Cheerio crumbs and much more. And with all these crumbs around, they attract ants and other pest as well. I basically have to vacuum the floor everytime I see and find the culprit to this problem so I get to the crumbs before the ants do.

I have been dealing with this pest problem since a while back. I find ants are the biggest problem we have.  With a toddler at home, I tried the natural way to clear them off rather than using the insecticide. I usually tried to trace the ant trails to the nest but it doesn’t always work as the trails sometimes lead to the wall or down the floor.  So they will return again once they found more crumbs around the house.

My MIL actually suggested for me to hire one of the pest control people to help solving my problem with ants. But what type of exterminating approach would they use against the pest? Most probably they use poison. I would prefer to hire an exterminator that uses natural green approach to get rid of the pest. I personally think this is the better pest management than the prior method. That is why we hired the pest control company that uses orange oil to treat our termite problem earlier this month.

Raymond Lam Fung - Love with No Regret

Moonlight Resonance and Lam Fung fans, I bet you agree with me this song of his is one of the best.  I haven’t been listening to any Cantonese songs for the longest time but this song caught my attention when I was watching Moonlight Resonance. But this singer/actor is pretty good. He has a very deep and sexy voice. This song was on the top of the Jade Solid Gold chart a few weeks ago where he and a few of the casts of Moonlight Resonance were guest stars at that week’s JSG.

Here is the MV of the song. Enjoy.

Last Friday was my Hubby’s off day. He is working 9/80, 9 days (in two weeks) with 80 hours. So he has every other Friday as off day. We went for dim sum at New Capital Seafood Restaurant in San Gabriel. We only go on weekdays because they have special deals on the dim sum. All dim sum A, B or C also the one price $1.88. I am not sure how much is the tea per person. We ate a lof this time around. We had 8-9 plates including some to-go. Actually I wanted to get for Brandon as this is his favorite but that day they didn’t have it. He ate a little bit of each items but not as much. Given a plate of BBQ pork cheung fun, he can finish all.

Label all your child’s items

I remember my aunt had an embossing DYMO Labelmaker a long time ago. I liked to use it to play around. It was fun to see how the types are embossed on the label strip and stick it at places where I needed them. I like to get my stuff organized.

Soon I will have to get an electronic DYMO Labelmaker to start get my son names on his items, as we are planning to send him to pre-school as soon as he is potty trained. When you have a child in school, you have to make sure all his/her items are labeled with his/her names. You do not want other kids to accidentally take your child’s stuff home. When you have your child’s name on the item, the chances of losing an item at school is lower.

DYMO Labelmaker has the iron on labels which can be used on their Letra Tag model. I can use this to label for all my son’s t-shirts, pants, hats and even backpack too. With this label, it will save me a lot of time. I just need to print it and iron it on to the fabric. This Letra Tag can give you several different fonts, print styles, and even box style. Besides labeling my son’s items, I can use it for other things around the house too.

Bento #001

The first bento box I put together for Brandon. This is very easy. Hehehe … I did this quite a while back but didn’t post it up. I thought it was too simple but very cute with the animal picks. I was giving Brandon some black grapes for his snack and I thought this is a fun time to use the picks. Sorry … I know this is a very simple bento, nothing amazing.

2008 Northrop Grumman Open House

Backdated post: 9/13/2008

Hubby works for Northrop Grumman. His company had an Open House two Saturdays ago on 9/13. There were free rides and games for kids. For adults, each has to pay $2. With the coupon, we got a free items. This year we got two messenger bags. We don’t usually use it, ends up donating it away end of the year.

We arrived at 10:50am. We stopped to collect my name tag, since Hubby used his badge while Brandon didn’t need one. After that, we went to collect the free messenger bag. There were free drinks stalls and ice cream (only 4 types to choose from) vans everywhere. Hubby started off with an ice cream bar. I didn’t have any. We walked around the children rides and games area (no picture). Brandon wasn’t too interested in the rides anyway, so we went to get some food.

The lunch meal wasn’t ready until 11:30am so we went and got hotdogs. One for each of us. Brandon likes hotdogs with ketchup. He had the whole hot dog minus half the bun. By then, he was full. But I wasn’t. So I went to que for the lunch meal. When the lines were opened, I got a bit of salad, fruits, a BBQ tri tip roast, a bit of BBQ chicken and a few cookies. I like the sugar cookies. While we were eating, I saw a Mommy from our parenting class with her boy and husband. We sat together for a little while and enjoyed the music entertainment on the stage.

We left at 12pm and headed to Launching Pad, the daycare/preschool in the company’s compound. They were having open house as well to allow parents to drop by to check out their facility. It is a very nice school but the fees are very steep. Pre-school for 3 yr old full time is around $850/month. I would have to come out to work if we are sending our boy here for pre-school.

Here are some random pictures I took at the Open House.

It would be nice

It would be nice that we can go for a short vacation. Just me, Hubby and Brandon. The last vacation I had was a trip to Malaysia with Brandon. Hubby had to stay home as he couldn’t take off 5 weeks away from work. He wasn’t too interested going to Malaysia as the weather is kinda a bit too hot and humid for him. Also, he can’t drive there as we drive on the opposite side of the road.

A friend of mine had just returned from a trip to Costa Rice and told us wonderful stories about their vacation. It would be nice if we hop on the plane and head to a beautiful, peaceful and serene Costa Rica resort such as FlorBlanca. The weather shouldn’t be that hot. I’ve just checked its weather and it is at 70F which is cooler than I thought it would be. I also heard from my friend that there is a spa in the hotel. *wink* I want to enjoy a spa day all to myself. May be Hubby can take Brandon to the beach to have fun and get tanned.

School for fall term

Our school term started second week of September.  This time we are taking two classes from Torrance Adult School.  First the Parenting Class for Toddler 2 to 3 years old, and the second class is the Music Class for 18 to 36 months old.  Both classses are held at different schools.  The first is at Griffith Adult School and the Music Class is at Hamilton which is a much nearer drive for me.  It will only take 5 minutes for me to get the Music Class.

The Parenting Class is on Monday from 9am to 12:15pm.  We usually arrive at 9:30-9:40am.  It takes us at least 15 minutes to get to this location.  When I wake up in the morning, I will prepare and make Brandon’s lunch.  It may be pasta soup or chicken/fish porridge.  That is one reason we arrive a little late to class.  But the actual class doesn’t start till 9:30am where we have to sit around and sing songs.  The first 20-30 minutes are basically warm up time for the toddlers.  We will do art and then we have sharing time.  The sharing time is when each toddler bring and share one of their toys and place it in the box.  The teacher will bring out the toy one by one and the child shall go to the front to collect his/her toy.  The teacher at that point may ask one or two simple questions (what is this?  what color is this?) to get a response from the child.  After this we have snack time.  Then is discussion time where the teacher will talk about the topic of the week.  At the same time, she will open up the cabinets with toys to let the children play while the mommies can listen.  Usually we leave between 11am to 11:30am to get home by 12pm.  Immediately when we reached home I will feed him lunch and then is his afternoon nap time.

As for the Music Class which falls on every Thursday from 10:15am to 12:15pm.  Lunch for that day will be sushi roll and mango bar which I will feed him during snack time in class at 11:30am.  Since this is a nearer location, we get home by 12:30pm and then I will put him for his nap.  In the Music Class, children will get to play with different types of instruments including tambourine, egg shaker, pots and pans and other kitchen stuff, clappers, and a few more.  Brandon can concentrate more in this class as it requires a shorter time span.  I like it more as I don’t have to drive that far for a class.
