Second weekend in Los Angeles - Friday 5/2

The past weekend was my brother’s second weekend in Los Angeles.  Usually on weekdays, we don’t do much as I can’t really go anywhere far with just myself caring for Brandon.  On top of that, I hate to deal with the bad traffic on the freeways.

Since last Friday was my Hubby’s day off, we get to go somewhere that weekday.  First we stopped for Korean BBQ lunch at all you can eat Garden Buffet in Cerritos.  Their weekday price for adult is $10.99, senior is $9.99 and for child (4 to 11) is age + 90 cents.  I am assuming if your kid is 4 then the price to pay is $4.90.  But what if your kid is 11?  Would it be $11.90?  It never occur to me to ask since my son is still under the paying age.

They have a lot of different meats for BBQ. Mostly are marinated with different type of sauces. There are also a few types of japanese sushi rolls, sashimi sushi, kim chi, Korean salad, hot food like fried rice, fried noodles, french fries, rice, soup and more. The only complain I have is the limited choice of dessert. I gave Brandon some jello as I was able to feed him a little porridge at home as I know he wouldn’t eat much of the food at this place. He took some noodles too.

Here is the BBQ pit picture of the last plate of food we were cooking.

After lunch, it was around 1pm. We went to downtown Disney. Daddy and Tau Fu were able to catch the Iron Man movie at the AMC Theater for the 1:30pm showing. Brandon and I went inside the Disneyland park to walk around. It was a hot day and it wasn’t too nice to be under the sun at that hour (1:30pm to 3:40pm). The park was very crowded too. Brandon was getting tired but he didn’t want to nap on his stroller. We met up with Hubby and my brother around 3:45pm, and we bought two original size of Jamba Juice to cool down. On the way home, Brandon napped for about 30 minutes.

Can’t wait to see my sister

It has been a long time since I saw my sister and her family. My sister told me on msn messenger yesterday that she and her family may be visiting my family in Los Angeles early next year. I am so happy when she told me about the news, but she also said that she can’t confirm as for now because they are waiting to apply for Australian Citizenship. Then my aunt also said may be she will tag along too from Malaysia. This is even a greater news … we will be having a big family reunion in LA. I really hope they will come, and I suggested the best time would be in April or May.

I’ve also started planning where to take them and also looking around to check rates for car rental. We need a bigger car, something like a minivan to accommodate all of us in one car. Rent a car is not too expensive when you know where to look. For example, you can find pretty good deals at Advantage Rent A Car. They have different promotion from time to time, just click on their ‘Specials’. They will give you rates of different types of cars, and you just pick one you prefer. Now I know that renting a minivan will cost approximately $30 a day plus taxes. It will not be too expensive to rent a mnivan for two weeks while they are here.

Next, I will probably start planning where to go with them in and around Los Angeles.

Broccoli Soup

Lately, I’ve been making this broccoli soup with pasta for Brandon once a week. He loves the soup and usually eats two full plates of these. I first got the idea from one person whom left a comment at Mommibee’s blog. I forgot who s/he was, as s/he was commented on the message box. She suggested Broccoli soup with shallot to Mommibee. So I tried. And then I changed the recipe here and there and here is what I came up.

Ingredients: Broccoli, carrot, shallots, cooked & cubed chicken meat (I boiled it in water with a little salt), water, oil, egg (optional) salt to taste.

Ingredients

1. Heat up the pot, I used my Pyrex Vision and add a little bit of oil.

2. Fragrant the shallot until it turns slight golden brown.

3. Add water to the pot. I usually add about 1/2 full depending on how much broccoli I have.

4. Then I add in the sliced carrots and chicken meat.to the boiling water. Let it boil with the lid close for a little while (10 -15 mins).

5. After 10 - 15 minutes, I add in the broccoli. Let it boil with lid open for another 5 - 10 minutes (depending how soft of the broccoli texture you prefer). Don’t over boil or else the broccoli will look yellowish green.

6. If you want, you can add a beatened egg and quickly swirl around to have the egg drop effect.

7. Turn off the heat, close the lid and remove the pot from the stove.

8. I scooped out immediately into separate bowls for one serving each and let it cool before going into the refrigerator.

9. Here is the bowl of broccoli soup with organic ABC pasta for Brandon’s lunch/dinner.

I need new shoes

I desperately need some new shoes. I need a pair of sneaker to replace my worn out everyday pair, a nice classy low heel for all purpose wear, and a new pair of flip flop so that I can wear to the beach for this summer.

It was a hard time thinking what to wear to a wedding reception that we were invited to two weeks ago. I was able to buy a nice pink dress shirt and I wore it with my classy dark grey long skirt. Unfortunately, I don’t have any matching shoes to go with. So I tried to find shop around to the perfect nice classy low heel to wear but I ended up wearing my old black boots which wasn’t too nice for such an occasion.

I have finally thrown away my damaged straw flip flop sitting on my porch for so long. Now I need a new pair of flip flop for beach outing this summer. We will be going to the beach a lot since my son really loves playing with the sand and the idea of picnicking at the beach sounds really fun to him.

Now that I known about Infinity Shoes online shopping website, I may check them out for various styles and designs of the shoes I need. They carry many different brand names such as Seychelles shoes, Sinnetonka boots and also Tsubo shoes. Now they have a special and limited time offer for free shipping on all orders over $59.98. Hop on to their website now if you are looking for shoes and see if you can find anything you like from them.
