Take out is cheaper
This day I found out is not always wise to cook at home and it doesn’t help to save money at all. It wasn’t any special day but I decided to make Kurma Curry Chicken that day. I had just bought a pack of coconut milk from an Asian market last weekend and wanted to open up this pack to see how good is this brand.
It was Monday, we went to the Toddler’s Time at Torrance Library and came home after 12pm. Brandon was hungry, or else I would have stopped to do grocery before we went home. So came home, cooked lunch for him, fed him and had his grandparents come over to play with him after lunch. I should have gone out then but I was too busy typing opps.
Afterward, he drank his milk and had his nap. I ran over to IL’s house to get some fresh green onions from their yard and asked if MIL has any potato on hand. She gave me a few but have rooted. (I once heard from my aunt saying not to eat rooted potato) I thought if Brandon woke up before I started cooking, then I would use these.
I seasoned the chicken and started boiling water for the Miso Soup. Before I was able to put in the ingredients into the boiling water, he woke up. It was around 4pm. I turned off the gas and quickly brought him to the 99 Ranch Market to get some vegetables as well as potatoes.
Came home around 4:40pm. Then I started boiling the soup first. Cut the tofu, and green onions. After that, I washed the rice and put into the rice cooker. Next, I began the Kurma Curry Chicken dish. Ahh … then I remember I forgot to buy the onion! Well, the dish had to do without any onion then. While that was cooking, I cut and washed the vegetables. I got some baby bok choi. Soup was done, turned off the gas. I continue cutting out a few of baby bok choi to prepare Brandon’s tofu with vege dish for him since the curry may be a bit too spicy for him.
Finished up the Kurma Curry Chicken by adding the coconut milk. Then I started the stir fry baby bok choi with oyster sauce. I thought I turned off the gas but I actually turn it to low, that’s why the vege was a bit over cooked. The rice was cooking in the rice cooker by now. When finished cooking the vege, I started with Brandon’s single tofu dish. Got that done in no time.
By the end of the cooking, this was the mess in my kitchen (I’d washed some earlier dishes prior to this picture, also not including our dinner plates and soup bowls):

All the mess for this plate and soup (picture not shown):

No doubt, the meal was delicious but does it worth the time I put in? It took more than 2 hours to buy the ingredients and prepare this meal. I told Hubby that is not economical to cook at home since we could easily get a take out for $20 or less. So much work and time consumed just to cook at home. Not just the cooking, after we had our meal, then came the cleaning part. Oh yea, we hand wash our dishes even though we have a 18″ dishwasher, we can’t fit all the pots in it anyway so wash by hand easier.

Green Bags are an amazing product. It is said the produce releases ethylene gas after it was picked or harvested. This gas will increase the aging process of the produce. What Debbie Meyer Green Bag does is to help absorb and release this gas thus helping to extend the life of the produce.
