Take out is cheaper

Take out is cheaper

This day I found out is not always wise to cook at home and it doesn’t help to save money at all.  It wasn’t any special day but I decided to make Kurma Curry Chicken that day.  I had just bought a pack of coconut milk from an Asian market last weekend and wanted to open up this pack to see how good is this brand.

It was Monday, we went to the Toddler’s Time at Torrance Library and came home after 12pm.  Brandon was hungry, or else I would have stopped to do grocery before we went home.  So came home, cooked lunch for him, fed him and had his grandparents come over to play with him after lunch.  I should have gone out then but I was too busy typing opps.

Afterward, he drank his milk and had his nap.  I ran over to IL’s house to get some fresh green onions from their yard and asked if MIL has any potato on hand.  She gave me a few but have rooted.  (I once heard from my aunt saying not to eat rooted potato)  I thought if Brandon woke up before I started cooking, then I would use these.

I seasoned the chicken and started boiling water for the Miso Soup.  Before I was able to put in the ingredients into the boiling water, he woke up.  It was around 4pm.  I turned off the gas and quickly brought him to the 99 Ranch Market to get some vegetables as well as potatoes.

Came home around 4:40pm.  Then I started boiling the soup first.  Cut the tofu, and green onions.  After that, I washed the rice and put into the rice cooker.  Next, I began the Kurma Curry Chicken dish.  Ahh … then I remember I forgot to buy the onion!  Well, the dish had to do without any onion then.  While that was cooking, I cut and washed the vegetables.  I got some baby bok choi.  Soup was done, turned off the gas.  I continue cutting out a few of baby bok choi to prepare Brandon’s tofu with vege dish for him since the curry may be a bit too spicy for him.

Finished up the Kurma Curry Chicken by adding the coconut milk.  Then I started the stir fry baby bok choi with oyster sauce.  I thought I turned off the gas but I actually turn it to low, that’s why the vege was a bit over cooked.  The rice was cooking in the rice cooker by now.  When finished cooking the vege, I started with Brandon’s single tofu dish.  Got that done in no time.

By the end of the cooking, this was the mess in my kitchen (I’d washed some earlier dishes prior to this picture, also not including our dinner plates and soup bowls):

Chicken, Vege and Rice

No doubt, the meal was delicious but does it worth the time I put in? It took more than 2 hours to buy the ingredients and prepare this meal. I told Hubby that is not economical to cook at home since we could easily get a take out for $20 or less. So much work and time consumed just to cook at home. Not just the cooking, after we had our meal, then came the cleaning part. Oh yea, we hand wash our dishes even though we have a 18″ dishwasher, we can’t fit all the pots in it anyway so wash by hand easier.

An organize freak

I am an organize freak. I like my things to be in perfectly order when I need them to be. However, since I am now a SAHM as well as working part time in real estate, it is hard to find time to do any organizing around the house. So I just open one eye and close the other eye.

But when it comes to owning a hand bag, I must have many compartments in the bag before I would but it. I need to have separate area for my cellphone, pens & stationery, purse, water bottle, shopping list & coupons, business cards, travel size tissue papers, and more. I dislike bags that has only one big compartment as it would be difficult for me to find any of my items.

I read about Over the Shoulder Buxton Bag Review and find that this may be a hand bag for me in the near future. It is made of genuine leather, comes in many compartments including zippered mesh, outside zippered pocket and more. The shoulder strap is adjustable and has a length of 22″. It is small but you can store many items in this bag. You can choose from their available colors of black, tan or red. May be I should have this item on my birthday list.

Rotisserie Chicken & Broccoli with rice

Brandon’s dinner

We bought a seasoned rotisserie chicken from Sam’s club one day and had it for dinner. I cut/diced some of the white meat and gave it for Brandon as his dinner. We also had blanched broccoli so we gave him a few stems. As you can see, he didn’t finish all the broccoli, only the floret part. I think he was full.

Conclusion, the chicken is very soft and easy for him to chew. Since I gave him the white meat part, there weren’t too much oil. It may be salty but I only gave him a small piece of chicken with rice each scoop. He chewed very fast. Kept asking for the next spoon when I hadn’t even start eating my own dinner.

Don’t waste the food

One late night, I was still awake and while folding some laundry, I turned on the TV to watch. And I came across this infomercial about Green Bags. The reusable (up to 10 times) bag and foodsaver will help to prolong the life of your fruits, vegetables and even flowers for up to 30 days.

Let me ask you, how many times have you had to throw away the food because they became rotten just a few days after you bought it? I know I do and it is often. Since living in America, most of the things we buy are in bulk and thus, the vegetables and fruits usually get thrown away because of this reason.

greenbag.jpgGreen Bags are an amazing product. It is said the produce releases ethylene gas after it was picked or harvested. This gas will increase the aging process of the produce. What Debbie Meyer Green Bag does is to help absorb and release this gas thus helping to extend the life of the produce.

I hopped online to check on the Green Bag Reviews and found good things about the bags. Now if you purchase it directly from their website you can get 10 large and 10 medium size bags for only $9.95 plus shipping and handling ($6.95).
